The Île d'Yeu
The Île d'Yeu
An air of Cornouaille!
The Île d'Yeu is a famous fishing port, with the picturesque ambience that is typical of the true islands. Leave your car and tie on dry land, bring along your windcheater and stout shoes, hire a bike and forget all your cares… This most meridional of the Vendéen islands offers a great deal of sunshine, revitalising spray, and invigorating winds – not forgetting the smiles of the natives, who wouldn't leave this paradise for anything in the world!

The salt marshes of the Presqu'île de Guérande
The gold here is white!
Classified as one of the 100 ‘Sites of Remarkable Taste’ in France, this magical place, where seawater circulates through a complex network of canals and basins, is the pride of Guérande, and has furnished its wealth since the iron age! This is where the 'white gold' crystallizes, due to the combined action of sun and wind, before being hand-gathered by the salt marsh worker. A stroll around the salt marshes is full of charm.

The Noirmoutier salt marshes
A well-seasoned island ...
Noirmoutier came alive in the 1980s, although only a few salt marshes - run by a handful of die-hards from the mainland - were still operational. Little by little, the profession got itself organised, and the salt activity was restored to its former honorable status. As heir to a tradition that is exceptional in nature, and more than 1600 years old, Noirmoutier has the benefit of both authenticity and quality. Salt is the perfect partner to the island's famous potato - the bonotte.

Noirmoutier
A Mediterranean-tinted walk…
Landscapes of polders and mills, mimosas and woods, creeks, small ports and old rigs… Noirmoutier certainly has style ! Sometimes known as the "Belle hollandaise" because half of the island is below sea level, it is joined to the continent by a bridge that has been toll-free since 1971. There is also the passage du Gois, a 4 km-long causeway connecting the island to the mainland at low tide: not to be missed!
